What I am reading

p02vdpfnWhat book(s) are you currently reading? What is on your to-read list?

Here are mine:

Currently Reading:

1215032The Wise Man’s Fear (The Kingkiller Chronicles #2) by Patrick Rothfuss

Genre: Fantasy

Length: 1007 pages

Started reading: May 28, 2017

Progress: 70%

To paraphrase the back cover:

Due to Kvothe’s escalating rivalry with Ambrose, he is forced to leave the university and find work abroad in Vintas. While attempting to curry favour with the nobility, Kvothe thwarts an assassination attempt, leads a group of mercenaries into the wild, and meets Felurian, a faerie that no man can resist. In The Wise Man’s Fear, Kvothe takes his first steps on the path of the hero and learns how difficult life can be when a man becomes a legend in his own time.

I was very excited to begin reading the second book in the series, after being impressed by The Name of the Wind. In this sequel, we learn more about Kvothe’s journey and the world that he lives in. We also learn more about his relationships as well as new characters that he meets. I won’t comment too much about this book here (will save that for the upcoming review.) The one thing that is slightly off-putting for me is the slow pace and the sheer length of the book. It moves much more slowly than The Name of the Wind, and is much longer.

To-Read List:

Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon

18692431Genre: Young Adult, Romance

Length: 310 pages

To paraphrase the back cover:

The main character is seventeen years old and allergic to everything, therefore has to be confined to her home. One day, a tall guy wearing black clothes named Olly moves in next door.

After the two books in the Kingkiller Chronicles series, I am looking forward to reading something light and not 1000-pages long. This book has great reviews on Goodreads (4.11 stars and 100,000+ ratings). I also tend to write in the Young Adult genre so hoping that this will give me a better sense of the genre.

Legend (Legend #1) by Marie Lu

9275658Genre: Young Adult, Romance, Fantasy, Sci Fi

Length: 302 pages

To paraphrase the back cover:

In the far future, the United States is replaced by the Republic, which is constantly at war with neighbouring countries. June is born in a wealthy family, and is trained in the nation’s highest military circles. Day is born in the slums and a wanted criminal. One day, June’s brother is murdered and Day becomes the primary suspect.

I’ve heard about Marie Lu’s writing via one of Kristen Martin’s videos. The Legend series has impressive reviews on Goodreads. Looking forward to this one as well 🙂

The Slow Regard of Silent Things (The Kingkiller Chronicles #2.5) by Patrick Rothfuss

21535271Genre: Fantasy

Length: 159 pages

To paraphrase the back cover:

This book provides a glimpse into Auri’s life and adventures in the Underthing. Patrick Rothfuss writes a disclaimer that this is not a continuation of Kvothe’s journey, but rather a side story for fans of Auri.

Thought I might as well read this one while I am on a roll 🙂 Auri is also one of my favourite characters in The Name of the Wind and The Wise Men’s Fear.

And that’s all!

Have you read any of these books? If so, what do you think? Any must-reads I should add to my list?

After I finish The Wise Men’s Fear, I will be re-reading my own novel and beginning the fourth revision. It will be 4 weeks since I’ve set aside the story to allow myself to “cool down” between drafts. I am excited and a bit nervous to read what I’ve wrote. What if it’s terrible?
